‘Elemental’ is a visually striking sentimental tale that, despite all of its familiar elements, is genuine and heartfelt.
‘Elemental’ boasts stunning animation that is signature for Pixar films but is not showcased well in its trailers. The story is full of heart and creativity despite a familiar feeling narrative. The film is a blunt allegory for challenges immigrants face as well as racism.
The voice work for the film is impeccable as the cast adds life to even the more cliché dialogue. The sound designer and art director all receive top marks for their ingenuity. The film is much more impressive as a feat of worldbuilding than storytelling.
‘Elemental’ is tropey and familiar, but its brisk pace, beautiful animation, and heart in the right place make it an enjoyable even if a lesser Pixar outing.
