'Friday the 13th: Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan' A Review

Updated: Dec 7, 2022

You won't find many who like this film even amongst Friday the 13th fans. 'Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan' is not only the worst film in the franchise, it is one of the worst films to ever grace the silver screen.

'Jason Takes Manhattan' is a franchise low in a series with a lot of lows. It is also happens to have the longest runtime in the series, clocking in at 1 hour and 40 minutes. which is not by any standard a long movie. However, the film's clunky editing and dreadful pacing will grate on the viewers nerves its entire runtime. Only to make matters worse are the slew of uninteresting stock characters coupled with bad acting. Far better films in the series cleverly orchestrate creative deaths scenes around interesting albeit usually flat characters portrayed by actors who are much more charismatic and who make the best of with their limited parts.

Even though the subtitle is, 'Jason Takes Manhattan', most of the film takes place on a cruise ship headed toward New York. The filmmakers could have took advantage of this space to create tension or a sense of claustrophobia, but chose the location based on budget rather than for any kind of dramatic or cinematic merit.

Every time I marathon the 'Friday the 13th' series, I still begrudgingly watch Part VIII . I try to savor the few moments in the film I do enjoy, which might amount to ten minutes of the the film. I would recommend everyone watch 'Jason Takes Manhattan,' that way they stop and think twice before they call the latest blockbuster 'a terrible film.' I'm presenting you with an actual terrible film.

.05/5 STARS

If you are not interested in watching a terrible film, The Brown Deer Public Library has far better films available within the Slasher/Horror Subgenre
