‘Strange World’ is one of Disney animation’s more ambitious endeavors and arguably the most topical in a post pandemic world. It is a Sci-fi/Adventure that revolves around several generations of explorers that live on a planet called Avelonia. It deals with the tension between family legacy and individual identity as well as how to adapt to a changing world.
‘Strange World’ is briskly paced and beautifully animated film. It is as much a personal journey as it is an adventure. It also follows the current trend of the primary villain being generational trauma.
The story albeit familiar is well told and in an often creative fashion. The filmmakers injected it with self-awareness and modernity while paying homage to adventure tales of old.
‘Strange World’ despite familiar elements never feels antiquated. It is fun, sometimes weird, and filled with genuine emotion and excitement.
