Sled
Materials
Necessary:
Craft Sticks (4.5"x 0.375")
Wood, Craft, or Hot Glue
Thin ribbon &/or twine
Scissors
Paint - red, white & brown
Paintbrush
Ruler
Pencil
Sandpaper
Optional:
Fake Greenery
Bells
Glue Gun
2x Fake (or real) Candy Canes
Instructions
Cut craft sticks so that you have:
2x 2.5" sticks
3x 1.25" sticks
2x 3" sticks
1x 1.75" stick
2x 4.5" sticks
Mark the two largest sticks 0.75" apart, three times. Add wood glue on the 0.75" marks and attach the 1.25" sticks. It should look like a ladder.
After it dries, paint it brown. The remaining 5 pieces should be painted red.
Center the two 3" sticks on the three middle sticks and position the 2.5" sticks on the ends. (Remember, real wooden sleds have gaps so make sure you have even gaps between your sticks.)
Align the straight ends with a spare craft stick so the cut ends line up neatly. On the opposite side of the spare stick from the four you just aligned, place and center the 1.75" stick. Glue all your pieces onto the brown base sticks except for the spare.
Knot a string to the 1.75" stick.
Optional: Add white paint to the edges (to act as snow) and you're done.
Variations
Glue a small sprig of fake greenery and a couple of bells to the sled in one corner for added holiday spirit.
Turn your sled into a holiday photo frame by cutting out and adding a picture of you or your loved one. Ideas include your standard portrait or having them pose as if going down the slope and cutting out their outline to paste to the sled.
Switch out the two longest craft sticks for candy canes for an added holiday cheer.
