In case you lost your directions or missed out on a kit, we have you covered. In this series, we will be showcasing past projects, in particular those that were originally released as Surprise Craftertunity kits at the library. So get ready to grab some spare materials and start crafting!
Framed Pinecone Flowers
This is a fun project for the new year to bring a little color into your home at a time when much of what we see is white covering bare branches. This project is just enough of a conversation piece to get people talking and encourage a little warmth where you least expect it.
Materials Required:
Pinecones
Paint
Canvas &/or Deep Picture Frame (like a shadow box)
Hot Glue
Brush(es)
Scissors/Knife
Instructions:
Cut the pinecones in half (you can usually get two flowers per pinecone).
Paint each one individually, getting all the way down into the crevices.
Hot glue the pinecones onto the canvas.
If you choose to frame it, find a deep frame, maybe even a shadow box, that fits your canvas. Hot glue the canvas to the frame.
NOTES:
If you do this again outside of the library program, you can even skip the canvas and glue the painted pinecones directly onto the frame.
Alternatively, if you think you will be able to see the canvas through the pinecones, you might consider painting the canvas first.
