'Tenacious D' Live at the BMO Harris Pavilion

Updated: Nov 15, 2022

I’ve been a fan of Tenacious D for over fifteen years now and I was able to cross them off of my relatively short list of musicians I must see live. They are a remarkable Rock-and-roll group that sound just as good live as they do on their albums. They are a woefully underrated band and I hope that one day they’ll join the ranks of ‘Led Zeppelin’ or ‘Metallica’ as one the greatest rock bands of all time.

Tenacious D consists of Jack Black (yes, that Jack Black) and his buddy Kyle Gass. Both are amazing guitar players and Jack Black is an exceptional vocalist. His stage presence and energy alone is unmatched. Add their skilled drummer and bassist in the mix and we’ve got ourselves an apex rock band.

Tenacious D’s music focuses on hard rock that pays homage '70s Hard Rock and '80s Metal. Hearing their guitar riffs and shredding live is euphoric. It never ceases to amaze me how phenomenal of a vocalist Jack Black is. Tenacious D are lyrical storytellers. Many of the songs that they performed are part of their film ‘Tenacious D and The Pick of Destiny’, so their set list also functioned as a loose narrative.

The sets and accompanying light show were superb in their simplicity. They weren’t gaudy, adding only atmosphere, which further illustrates Tenacious D's classic rock vibes. Jack Black seems very down to earth and an all-around great guy. I give him serious props that during the outro he thanked each member of his band and crew, by name, and gave them each a solo-including the lights guy. (It was a silent display of luminescent rhythms’ and patterns)

All and all ‘Tenacious D’ put on a sublime show that the Rock and Roll gods would be proud of.

MY STAR RATING 4/5
