‘The Menu’ is a searing rebuke of haute food culture. It is a high brow horror film yet a seething takedown of upper class apathy and elitism.
The refined performances of the ensemble paired with the elegant mis-en-scene and classical score serve to juxtapose the film's ever increasing brutality of events and darker themes.
‘The Menu’ is ambivalent towards culinary culture but loves food. It contains plenty of gorgeous shots and close-ups of an array of dishes. The film’s love for art is represented in the love for the culinary craft while it criticizes those who callously indulge without appreciation.
The ensemble lead by Ralph Fiennes deliver equally delectable performances as characters true natures are gradually revealed in 'The Menu's impeccable dramatic moments.
‘The Menu’ is a superb addition to the mastodontic pantheon of exemplary horror films of 2022.
