April 3-9th - National Library Week
Did you know that there are approximately 116,867 libraries (public, special, school and Academic), in the United States? Next week is National Library Week and we are celebrating with prizes! For every 5 items you checkout between 4/3-4/9 you will receive one entry into a drawing for a $25 Amazon gift card. The more items you check out, the more entries you will earn! Two lucky borrowers will win a $25 Amazon gift card.
Looking for more ways to participate? We would love to hear how you connect with the library. Did you find a great book? Get access to computers? Attend a great program or story time? Did you make new friends at the library's book club? Post your connection to Instagram, Twitter, or on the "I Love Libraries" Facebook Page. Use the hashtags #MyLibrary and #BrownDeerPublicLibrary. One randomly selected winner will receive a $25 Amazon gift card. Another person will also win a $100 Visa Gift Card from ALA!
If you love your library, say it loud and proud: vocal community support helps libraries secure much-needed funding and reminds hardworking library staff that their efforts are appreciated. Participating in the #MyLibrary promotion is a quick, easy way to help your library thrive!

National Poetry Month Grab and Go Kits
April is National Poetry Month! Stop in and pick up one of our grab and go kits (we will have something for everyone). Some people might wonder "Why do we need poetry?" Some might consider it to be old fashioned or maybe more for kids and angsty teens. So, why should we read (and write) poetry? Poetry offers new perspectives and helps us explore new ideas. Poems can reflect a variety of emotions, thoughts, feelings--in short, there is a poem for every mood! Or as Robert Frost said, "Poetry is when an emotion has found its thought and the thought has found words." Still not convinced? Check out this Ted Talk on why we need poetry. https://ideas.ted.com/what-happens-when-we-read-poetry/
