Writing Prompts to Get You Started #20

Maybe you have absolutely no idea where to start but have always wanted to try being a writer. Maybe you want to write the great American novel or you thought you'd write a poem about hidden life of a grain of sand. Maybe you just need a little inspiration to get you started or you find yourself just a little stuck. Maybe you find yourself trying to break out of your comfort zone or mix things up at work. Whatever your reason for landing here, practicing a little creativity can impact your life in ways you didn't expect.

But let's be honest. Creativity is a muscle and it needs exercise to work properly. That's where this series comes in. With any luck, this series will get your creative juices flowing and get you thinking in ways you hadn't before. A new prompt will appear once or twice a week. It's up to you what you do with it.

Oh, and be sure to check out our Community-Written Stories books and help us add to one of six stories we are writing and circulating this summer.

Writing Prompt for August 3rd, 2021:

Write what should not be forgotten. — Isabel Allende, Writing as an Act of Hope

Much that should be remembered, for good or ill, falls through the cracks. Those glorious moments that lift us up grow dim and faded with disuse as we focus on the problems of the here and now. The horrors that never should have existed may briefly be brought to light to face their fate but without vigilance, sink back into the shadows to return once they have been forgotten. Neither can be allowed to happen.

This is your chance to make a difference. There is a world out there passing us by as we busy ourselves with the minutia of the moment. But if we take the time to record those important things, and those seemingly insignificant things, and those wonderful, horrible, astounding things, we might be able not only to keep a little of that passing world with us but create something in the future. A chance for us to become more.

So here is your prompt for the week:

Write about something important to you or your community, either positive or negative. Record for the future that which should never be forgotten.
