Writing Prompts to Get You Started #23

Maybe you have absolutely no idea where to start but have always wanted to try being a writer. Maybe you want to write the great American novel or you thought you'd write a poem about hidden life of a grain of sand. Maybe you just need a little inspiration to get you started or you find yourself just a little stuck. Maybe you find yourself trying to break out of your comfort zone or mix things up at work. Whatever your reason for landing here, practicing a little creativity can impact your life in ways you didn't expect.

But let's be honest. Creativity is a muscle and it needs exercise to work properly. That's where this series comes in. With any luck, this series will get your creative juices flowing and get you thinking in ways you hadn't before. A new prompt will appear once or twice a week. It's up to you what you do with it.

Oh, and remember our Summer Reading Programs end a week from tomorrow and with it, our Community-Written Stories, at least for the season. It's time to get those Beanstack entries filled in and the notebooks back so you can be counted and we can share what everyone wrote. This isn't the end, only a beginning!

Writing Prompt for August 13th, 2021:

Historical figures are rife with writing opportunities. Sometimes these opportunities come in the form of specific defining events. Sometimes they are more along the lines of characters close to the important people that we don't hear so much about. Genghis Khan's daughter was a formidable warrior and leader in her own right. Albert Einstein's first wife was a well-respected physicist and mathematician. Cleopatra had a hand in killing at least three of her siblings. Joan of Arc's love interest, Gilles de Rais, would later be known as and convicted of being a serial killer of children.

As you can see, there are any number of interesting aspects, both innocent and macabre, with which to base a historically based story.

So here is your prompt for the weekend:

Find someone closely connected to a historical figure and write a piece about them.
