Writing Prompts to Get You Started #25

Updated: Aug 21, 2021

Maybe you have absolutely no idea where to start but have always wanted to try being a writer. Maybe you want to write the great American novel or you thought you'd write a poem about hidden life of a grain of sand. Maybe you just need a little inspiration to get you started or you find yourself just a little stuck. Maybe you find yourself trying to break out of your comfort zone or mix things up at work. Whatever your reason for landing here, practicing a little creativity can impact your life in ways you didn't expect.

But let's be honest. Creativity is a muscle and it needs exercise to work properly. That's where this series comes in. With any luck, this series will get your creative juices flowing and get you thinking in ways you hadn't before. A new prompt will appear once or twice a week. It's up to you what you do with it.

Oh, and remember our Summer Reading Programs end tomorrow and with it, our Community-Written Stories, at least for the season. It's time to get those Beanstack entries filled in and the notebooks back so you can be counted and we can share what everyone wrote. This isn't the end, only a beginning!

Writing Prompt for August 20th, 2021:

Fantasy, especially those filled with magic spells, always seems to emphasize unintended consequences for irresponsible magical use. Magical realms are opened; spontaneous combustion is a real threat; mythical creatures are released into the world; someone launches Magic Missile and somehow misses the mark (a supposed impossibility); the sky literally starts raining cats, dogs and frogs. The list is endless. Once the unintended consequences arise, it's time to put your thinking caps on and figure out the solution to the problem. How do we fix these dangerous (and sometimes hilarious) mistakes?

So here is your prompt for the weekend:

A person has been turned into an object by magic.
