'Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3' A Review

Updated: May 28, 2023

Auteur writer/director James Gunn brings his ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ trilogy to a satisfying close with the darkest, most brutal, and most emotional chapter yet.

Once again Gunn brings forth his signature vibrant aesthetic and humor, but not without heart, in his alleged final outing for this titular motley crew of super heroes. It goes without saying that the ensemble is fantastic, but this film focuses on Rocket Raccoon's origin story as a narrative and thematic throughline to pull at the heartstrings.

There isn’t much wrong with ‘Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol 3’ sans some excess goofiness and unevenness- but even that does not hurt it overall. The film contains top notch visuals, an awesome soundtrack that corresponds with the films themes and moods, and some wonderfully orchestrated action sequences. Although it is overstuffed, never to the point where it fails the narrative, and isn’t even the worst culprit of this compared to some recent MCU outings.

‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3’ is a cathartic and emotionally satisfying end to the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy and the best MCU film since ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’

MY STAR RATING 4/5 STARS
