Book & Quill Ribbon Bookmarks
These bookmarks are fairly simple to make with only minimal knowledge of beading or handcrafts required. They make great gifts and, when distilled to their basest elements, can be personalized however you see fit.
Materials:
1/8-1/4"-wide ribbon, at least 10" in length (11-14" works best)
1 book charm
1 feather/quill charm
1-2 spacer beads (optional)
2 foldover crimps
2 eye pins .8-1.6" long at least (If you want to add spacer beads on, you'll need at least 1.6")
Fabric glue or super glule
Chain-nose or needle-nose pliers (the rounded, tappering nose of the chain-nose works better, or anything that allows for an even curve, but needle-nose work too. My demo was created with a needle-nose)
Directions:
Place a small dab of glue on one end of the ribbon. Fold over both edges toward the center until it fits within a crimp. Add another small dab on the ribbon if necessary to better secure to crimp.
Fold the edges of the crimp over the ribbon like a pamphlet with the pliers. The tighter the better.
Repeat 1 & 2 on the other end.
Attach an eye pin on both ends. Lightly pinch pins closed.
On one end, add spacer bead and quill charm (in that order).
Using pliers, gently fold over the end of the pin until it creates a closed loop around the charm.
Repeat step 6 with the book charm on the other end.
Let it dry at least an hour or two.
Have fun marking your place in a good book!
