‘The Rugrats Movie', while not a perfect film, is as close to a perfect adaptation of the acclaimed hit ‘90s cartoon 'Rugrats' as audiences could get. To craft a feature film out of a TV show that typically tells stories in eleven minute segments is no easy feat but the filmmakers pull it off effortlessly with ‘The Rugrats Movie’. The entire remarkably talented voice cast returned for this big screen outing only further cementing themselves as voice acting icons.
The filmmakers didn't just polish the animation with 'The Rugrats Movie', they crafted a full blown cinematic experience with the scope of this film. The impact of the narrative rippled throughout the rest of the series and the startling emotional heft of the film made it one of the more unforgettable big screen TV series adaptations. Even the tie in song “Take Me There” by Blackstreet Feat. Mya was a smash hit and is still a bop till this this day.
‘The Rugrats Movie’ is an imperfect albeit enjoyable adaptation of the series and not only is it better than anyone thought it would be but it still holds up after nearly twenty-five years.
MY STAR RATING 3.25/5 STARS
